There's a Y in every family!
Serving families has always been at the heart of the Y. We are a place they can find respite from social, economic and educational challenges, and learn how to overcome them. We desire for every family to build stronger bonds, achieve a greater work/life balance, and become more engaged within our community. We offer SIX (6) Family Fun Nights a year, Camp Finnup Fundays, our Summer Food Service Program, Games to Go, Blood Drives, and much, much more!
If you want to volunteer, please contact Caleigh Knight our Community Engagement Coordinator. Email her at caknight@ymcaswkansas.org or call (620)-275-1199 ext. 202.

Here at the YMCA, we believe in strengthening our community. We've been in Garden City since 1964, and continue to focus on bringing people together. Whether that be by hosting free events year round for families to enjoy, providing necessities to those in need, adminstering free daycare to our members and guests of the day at our Kidzone, organizing a variety of sports for kids and adults, being the first facility in Garden City to offer Pickleball, arranging two annual blood drives, providing free food to children in the summer, and so much more! We are always looking for ways to strengthen our community and fill the needs of our town.
NEED A PARTNER? The YMCA loves to partner with community agencies, other non-profits, churches, and organizations on community-wide events and initiatives.
We are here to partner, collaborate, assist, and engage for any event catered to help our community! Here are some examples of the work we've done recently.
Salvation Army: Every year we have our Tree of Warmth. It's where people can bring winter clothes to donate for kids and people in need. All clothes donated are placed on the tree and then taken to the Salvation Army at the end of December.
Compass: Clients utilize the YMCA for special price.
Pickleball & Jammin: Our Dome facility was the first in all of Garden City to offer the fastest growing sport in America, Pickleball. With this new sensation sweeping the nation and nobody else yet providing it, we decided to host a weekly event. Every week after school we'd have kids come and practice pickleball with paddles donated to us by USA Pickleball. They'd learn the sport, try new techniques, practice, and afterwards, they'd recieve pizza. All of this completely for FREE! We had kids of all ages arrive and enjoy learning this captivating sport. All thanks to our sponsors, Jane Johnson (who helped run the program), and some volunteers from our own pickleball womens league.
Western Kansas Community Foundation: Every year, WKCF holds a competition for non-profits in the area to see who can raise the most funds in a day. It's called Match Day, and we are happy particpants.
Knights of Columbus: Even with our large facility, we still need help from other businesses when it comes to hosting certain events. Luckily, we've partnered with Knights of Columbus on this. They've continually and reliably provided us with use of their facility. Every year we lean on them for our ARC Banquet and Corporate Cup Challenge.
Homeless: FREE showers and FREE use of the foyer to sleep.
PREP Pass: Partner with area physicians, therapists, hospitals, and clinics for patients to continue their exercise or therapy sessions FREE on us! This allows those still in recovery access to special equipment. When released from physica therapy they say you're only 80% healed, and afterwards is crucial to long-term healing.
Joe Amos Construction: FREE coats for 250 kids during our Halloween Family Fun Night.
Halloween at the YMCA: In 2022, we gave out 250 coats to those who atteneded our event for free thanks to a donation from Joe Amos Construction. In 2023, we were able to give out 4,043 pounds of turkey for free to those who atteneded as well. We were able to host this spooktacular event thanks to volunteers from Real Men Real Leaders, Kenneth Henderson Middle School, as well as various workers inside the YMCA lending their free time. If you wish to help with our next family fun night, email caknight@ymcaswkansas.org with your name and availabilty.
Daylight Donuts: Provide us with our free donuts every Wednesday. To honor our members we have Donut Worry Wendesdays! Waking up early can be dragging for many, so we want to help you start out your day with a bit of fun. Every single week we put out donuts for anybody to take and enjoy after, during, or before their morning workout. It is a staple here at both the YMCA and Dome facilities.
Towns Riverview & Leonard Circle: During problems with the water, we offered free showers to the residents of Towns Riverview. Meanwhile, when power lines on Farmland road fell down and blocked the only entrances into the community located at Leonard Circle some residents couldn't make it to their homes, let alone have running water. Families were allowed entrance into the YMCA before they needed to get to work or school the next day.
Dillons: Every summer since 2021, we have partnered with Dillons on our most influential community program, Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). This meant handing out free food to children 18 & under. Every Sunday afternoon once school was out, we would hand out food from 1:30-3:30 pm. All of the food had been ordered and supplied by Dillons East. The people at Dillons provided extra equipment when needed like U-Carts, lifts, carts, and more. To top things off, they stored all frozen and chilled goods in their fride and freezer for us throughout the entire summer. Finally, every single sack of food handed out was placed and tied inside a Dillons bag. This program couldn't be possible without their hardwork and cooperation.
Emmaus House: Every November we offer a special membership promotion to anybody wanting to become a member. If they bring in a certain amount of canned goods, they recieve a discount on their joining fee. This special only occurs during this month and all canned items are later donated to Emmaus House. The same occurs during special events we host here at the YMCA that invoolve canned donations.
United Rentals: Our Summer Food Service Porgram requires a lot of work. This also includes transporting the food and goods from Dillons to the YMCA. Since we order the food in bulk this requires the use of a forklift. Luckily, United Rentals is ready to help and let us borrow one at a discounted rate in order to assist with kids getting free food. Real Men Real Leaders: This group wants to help empower tomorrows leaders today! They are always more than willing to come assist us in our hour of need. Especially for our free events, which includes Family Fun Nights, Summer Food Service Program, and our ARC Banquet. The boys come and volunteer their services as they learn about giving back and taking on responsibility. The YMCA can't be more grateful for our volunteers of the year!
Dairy Farmers of America: FREE milk to our members for Member Appreciation Day.
The Bike Group: Use of the facility for over 30 bikers who crossed the country. We provided transportation to and from their stopping spot on the highway back into town to our facility. This also gave them the chance to shower, use the sauna, relax, and provide them a place to sleep for the night.
Immunize Kansas Coalition: FREE inflatable and marketing for Health Fair.
American Red Cross: Every year we host two blood drives. This is a compltely free event where people choose to donate blood to help save lives. We provide the facility and help run the check-in process as the ARC workers handle everything else. We couldn't be happier to help during this blood shortage crisis. Want to donate blood? Click here to be taken to the ARC website.
Big L Rentals: As stated before, our Summer Food Service Program involves a lot of manpower and, just as important, storage. Big L rented out a small storage container to us where we could store our supplies and more for this life-changing program. On top of that, they also supplied us with a lift which we used to help move the bundles of food we had moved from Dillons.
Finnup Foundation: Here at the YMCA we want every kid to learn how to swim. It is a life-saving ability that every child should know. That is why we provide FREE swim lessons for kids. The program is called YSplash. We are forever happy for the grants Finnup Foundation provides so we are able to offer such life-saving classes. They also provide our grant for Camp Finnup Fundays as well.
